If you’re a parent, what’s your goal for parenting?
My parenting purpose statement is simply this: Our purpose is to leverage our children’s lives so that people in every nation will receive multiplied opportunities to respond in faith to the rightful King of kings.
This goal is one of the primary filters that my wife and I use to decide what we allow and encourage for our children. We don’t pursue this purpose perfectly, and there are many moments when we completely lose sight of the right goals. And yet, this statement helps us to focus our schedules and our lives more effectively on God’s goals for our children.
As our children have grown older, the goal of our parenting has never changed. And yet, the role that my wife and I play in the pursuit of this goal has shifted with the growth of each child. If you’re interested in how the role of parents changes throughout the stages of their children’s lives, here’s a quick video to help you and the parents in your church.
